The return to Rai lasted only a few minutes. The time for a gag with Fiorello on La Pennicanza on Radio2, a few jokes about the past and a song rewritten as a joke. But behind the skit that brought Amadeus back into the corridors of public service, a much more concrete game can be glimpsed: that of his professional future.

Consensual separation
According to rumors that have also emerged following his participation in Fiorello’s program, the host and Warner Bros Discovery are reportedly working on a consensual separation that would lead to the early termination of the four-year contract signed in spring 2024. An agreement that, in its initial intentions, was supposed to represent one of the pillars of the growth of Nove, Warner Bros Discovery’s flagship network, in terms of general entertainment.
According to reconstructions, the issue has been on the table for weeks. On one hand, there’s a significant investment made by the group led in Italy by Alessandro Araimo to secure one of the most popular faces on Italian television. On the other hand, there’s the realization that the transfer from Rai did not generate the disruptive effect on ratings that many imagined.

Rai: «Huge walls and a desire to overcome them»
Amadeus’s participation in Fiorello’s program came in this context. «Sanremo never refuses. We lived five years with great joy and fun,» said the host, before playing along with his friend and singing a revisited version of Non amarmi: «Even if Rai has huge walls, I’m not afraid and I want to overcome them».
Results below expectations
Beyond the lightness of the moment, the industrial data remains. The experience on Nove has just concluded with the last episode of The Cage, aired on May 29. It was the last scheduled appointment of the season and comes as Warner Bros Discovery, which has not commented on the rumors, is defining – globally – new strategies also in light of the acquisition by Paramount Skydance. And the fine-tuning of the new 2026-2027 schedules is also being defined, with various plans under study.
