Stop to summer skiing at Ferragosto on the Stelvio glacier, in Alta Valtellina. Sifas (Società Impianti Funiviari allo Stelvio), today announced to operators and tourists in the ski area a difficult but necessary decision given the temperatures recorded in recent days, with continuous heat waves even at high altitudes, the absence of cooling and nighttime refreezing of the snow cover, and frequent thunderstorms that have further compromised the state of the glacier.

“These factors – the note reads – do not allow us to guarantee the usual quality standards and, above all, the safety necessary for summer skiing.” Therefore, as a consequence, starting today, Saturday, August 15, skiing activity on the Stelvio glacier is suspended until further notice. However, the cable car service to reach the glacier remains active. “Our team – Sifas highlighted – will continue to constantly monitor the situation and mountain conditions in the hope of a temperature drop and an improvement in the state of the glacier.
