Sebino, panoramic trains sold out from 15 euros along Lake Iseo: new dates added

The summer runs with the new panoramic carriages on the Palazzolo sull’Oglio-Paratico Sarnico line are sold out. The sold-out announcement was made by the Fondazione Fs Italiane, confirming the success of the initiative launched experimentally in the summer months of 2026. To meet everyone’s requests, new dates have been added to the calendar: the runs will resume on Saturday 5, Sunday 6, and Saturday 12 September. Tickets can be purchased on the Fondazione FS website and on the Trenitalia and Trenord sales channels.

The initiative was presented last June 20 and was launched by the Foundation – the entity established in 2013 to protect the vast historical heritage of the railways of our country – on June 27, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the inauguration of the line. The construction work of the historic tracks began in 1874 and was completed two years later. Initially, the line mainly served to connect the steel industries of Sebino, between the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia, to the main railway network and for freight transport. In Paratico, the journey continued on water. The wagons were transferred onto barges heading to the lake’s factories. The regular passenger service remained secondary for a long time and was discontinued in 1966, while freight continued to circulate until 1998.

Only since 2014 have tourist trains resumed running on the line, which has become part of “Timeless Tracks,” the Fondazione FS project aimed at giving new life to ten railway lines crossing the Italian province, creating an innovative formula of railway tourism and helping to “revalue the territories they cross by creating a widespread museum of small villages and Italian landscape jewels.” The Palazzolo sull’Oglio-Paratico Sarnico line project, in addition to Fondazione FS Italiane, involved Trenord, with the patronage of the Department of Transport and Sustainable Mobility and the Department of Tourism, Territorial Marketing, and Fashion of the Lombardy Region.

The journey is short – only 10 kilometers – but the experience offered is evocative and authentic. The panoramic carriages depart from Palazzolo sull’Oglio and accompany travelers to Paratico Sarnico through cultivated fields, orderly rows, and wooded stretches. The views change at every curve. The railway follows the course of the Oglio river up to the gates of Lake Iseo. The carriages – designed precisely to offer direct contact with the surrounding environment – are partly open and allow tourists to immerse themselves in a breathtaking and historically rich panorama. The train proceeds slowly, allowing to “observe every detail of the landscape, breathe the scents of the countryside, and experience the territory with a different, more authentic and aware gaze,” as stated on the Fondazione Fs website. Upon arrival, it is possible to continue the experience on land along the numerous cycle-pedestrian paths and walks along the river that wind through the area. The initiative was born to restore “the charm of railway excursions of the past, transforming the journey into a unique visual and sensory experience: not just a means of transport, but a true moving viewpoint.”

The panoramic carriages, according to the Foundation’s intentions, besides allowing an immersive experience, also represent an example of recovery and sustainability. The project was born from the transformation of three decommissioned flatbed freight cars that were converted into panoramic carriages at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni in Rimini. In this way, a transport model already widespread in some Northern European countries but still absent in the Italian landscape was created.
