In France, over 20,000 people, including thousands of tourists from campsites and other accommodation facilities, have been evacuated due to the “particularly intense” wildfire advancing along the Atlantic coast in the southwest of the country.

The fire, which broke out in a dense pine forest near the village of Saumos, about 40 km west of Bordeaux and just north of Arcachon Bay, a popular tourist destination, has burned 3,100 hectares in less than 24 hours, authorities reported.
So far, no casualties or injuries have been reported, and only one isolated house has been destroyed, but the Gironde prefecture specified that, despite 700 firefighters and four firefighting planes battling the flames, the situation “remains unfavorable.”
