Engineering, tech, and healthcare. Between the advance of artificial intelligence and the progressive aging of the population, the Italian labor market is increasingly vulnerable in some key sectors for the country’s future where the lowest number of daily applications arrives compared to the average of job postings, according to the Indeed hiring lab. The engineer who is the hardest to find is the reliability engineer, who ensures the efficiency and capability of a system or component to perform the required function under certain conditions and for a specified period of time. Job postings are increasing but daily applications are 95% less than the average of postings. Positions are mainly concentrated in Piedmont, where 27% of the total postings are made, and in Emilia-Romagna, which accounts for 22% of the offers for this role.

Analysis of applications
Lisa Feist, economist at Indeed, explains that “the analysis of the most difficult professional categories to fill highlights difficulties especially in the engineering and technological fields, as well as in healthcare. In technical design and software development, daily applications for positions related to industrial, electronic, and mechanical engineering and software development drop by over 70% compared to the national average of job postings. Professions in the data management and communication ecosystem are also struggling, with reduced application flows for profiles in mathematics, statistics, and information design. The healthcare and care sector is no exception, where the contraction of daily responses records values significantly below average for pharmacists, healthcare technicians, and medicine and surgery.”
