Italy is preparing for a phase of severe bad weather in the North, expected to involve part of the Center between Thursday, August 20 and Friday, August 21, while in the South the heat will remain intense and tend to increase again over the weekend.

According to forecasts by Lorenzo Tedici, media meteorologist responsible for iLMeteo.it, the disturbance will slowly move from Northwest to East and may produce very heavy precipitation, with accumulations exceeding 200 millimeters between Lake Como and Valtellina.
The arrival of cooler air follows a long phase dominated by heat. Tedici traces the start of the first heat wave of the season back to May 24 and emphasizes how the atmosphere has accumulated a lot of energy, while the temperatures of the Italian seas have reached particularly high values, with peaks of 29-30 degrees also in the Ligurian Sea and northern Adriatic. The contrast with the infiltration of cooler air can favor intense thunderstorms and hailstorms.

The disturbed phase should last about 48 hours. Between Thursday and Friday the storms will affect the North and may extend to upper Tuscany and other areas of the Center. In the North a sharp drop in temperatures is also expected: highs should drop to around 27-28 degrees and locally below 25.
The situation is more complex in the Center. In Rome the heat should persist, with highs around 34 degrees, while in Florence next week lower values are expected, around 30 degrees.
