The unions call on the Ministry of Transport regarding the tender for the management of Intercity trains, which has chosen to divide it into three lots, instead of one, in the absence of social clauses. The unions call on the government which “has chosen to ignore our requests regarding the risks arising from future intercity railway tenders where the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has shown the intention to divide into three non-equivalent lots, instead of a single lot”.
The tendering of the Intercity service: 3,000 railway workers at risk
At the heart of the protest is the imminent publication of the tender for the Intercity service – involving about 3,000 railway workers – which the Ministry of Transport intends to divide into three lots. Not only that. The trade unions also complain about the absence in the tenders of “binding social clauses” that ensure job continuity for the approximately 3,000 workers currently employed by Trenitalia (Fs Italian Group) in the service.
For the general secretary of Filt Cgil Stefano Malorgio, the idea that “fragmenting the intercity service into lots, increasing the number of operators, helps people’s mobility is illusory. This approach will only lead to the depletion of the Fs group and put workers at risk due to the absence of social clauses safeguarding employment,”
