In August 2026, the national consumer price index for the entire community (NIC), excluding tobacco, recorded a change of +0.5% on a monthly basis and +3.3% on an annual basis (up from +2.9% in July), confirming the preliminary estimate. This was announced by Istat. The increase in inflation mainly reflects the trend in prices of Energy products, regulated (from +14.8% to +18.6%) and, above all, unregulated (from +11.4% to +17.0%), Durable goods (from +0.7% to +1.3%) and, to a lesser extent, Unprocessed food (from +3.6% to +3.8%); on the other hand, the growth in prices of Recreational, cultural and personal care services (from +3.0% to +2.6%) and Transport-related services (from +1.6% to +0.8%) slowed down.
