Bianchedi in the National Team, the case explodes. Exchange of blows between Coni and Figc

The choice of Diana Bianchedi as head of delegation of the National football team, announced by the president of the FIGC Giovanni Malagò in an interview with «Gazzetta dello Sport», immediately raises a case with clarifications at a distance between CONI and FIGC.

Bianchedi is, in fact, deputy vice president and member of the National Board of the Olympic Committee. Hence the issue of the compatibility of the dual role at CONI and that of accompanying the National football team “fresh” from the appointment of Roberto Mancini as head coach, after the brief period of Paolo Maldini as technical director and Leonardo advisor who had different ideas about leading the Azzurri team.

Returning to Bianchedi, CONI has initiated formal checks to verify the compatibility of the dual role. In a statement, the Olympic Committee announced that «pursuant to the Statute and current laws, the relevant offices and competent bodies have been promptly activated in order to evaluate any profiles of opportunity, non-assignability and incompatibility, to protect the National Board».

Article 7, paragraph 4, of the CONI Statute establishes, in fact, that members of the National Board, «if they find themselves in a situation of permanent conflict of interest are considered incompatible with the office they hold, and must be declared forfeited».

For FIGC, on the other hand, there is no incompatibility. Sources from the Football Federation say that «no conflict of interest is found in the appointment of Diana Bianchedi, vice president and member of the CONI Board, as head of delegation of the Italian National football team».
