In 2024, the administration purchased the first batch of containers from a Spanish company and the first 16 handling machines from Farid Industrie, in partnership with a German waste truck manufacturer. “The trial began,” explains the CEO, “in a Manhattan district, to verify if the solution was functional.” At the beginning of August last year, the tender was launched, then won in the fall. Meanwhile, the municipal elections brought the victory of the new mayor Zohran Mamdani and the project restarted after a few months, with the goal of implementing the new system in the city’s five districts by 2031.
At the factory in Vinovo, there is a production line dedicated to the New York city project, to double the production capacity on that product line, with an investment of 10 million in 2026 alone. Additionally, Farid is establishing, with the local dealer, a company in the United States that will handle the integration of the machines on site, with about twenty employees in the first phase. “We have identified the management, in August we will identify the production site and by the end of the year we will carry out the work directly with our staff,” explains Orecchia.
