The national data

It is a clear snapshot of Italy that has endured while containing the damage, and in some cases doing much better than expected, in a year marked by uncertainties and the blows of the Trump administration on tariffs and by the fragmentation of production chains which remains an open wound from international crises.

In 2025, according to Istat data, the national export of goods increased in value by 3.3%, mainly thanks to the push from the Center and the pharmaceutical effect. The growth rate remained substantially unchanged also in the first four months of 2026.

The top 30 provinces

In the top ten provinces, behind the first three are Turin, Vicenza, Bergamo, Bologna, Brescia, Arezzo, and Modena. Among the top ten in the ranking, the strongest export growth compared to 2024 is recorded by Florence (41.3%), reaching a value of 34.2 billion euros, and Arezzo (+19.3% at 18.5 billion). Milan, despite a 2.8% decrease, which lowers exports to 56.1 billion, remains in first place. Vicenza falls by a few tenths, for the rest in the top ten there are only positive signs.

South in the rear

Broadening the view to the top 30 provinces by export value, only seven recorded a decrease compared to 2024. But it is also true that in this larger group, the South continues to play a secondary role. The South is in fact represented only by the province of Naples, in fourteenth position with 14.5 billion euros (+3.7%). To find other southern provinces we have to go down to 35th place, where Syracuse appears (but the data is largely influenced by the activity of the petrochemical hub) and to 44th place where, with 5 billion euros in foreign sales, we find Bari.
