Inflation: Istat confirms steady in June, +3% year on year

In June 2026, explains Istat, inflation falls to +3.0% (from +3.2% in May). The slight slowdown essentially reflects the easing of price pressures on unprocessed Food, Transport-related Services, and recreational, cultural, and personal care services. On the other hand, inflation is supported by the moderate acceleration of Energy prices.

Grocery cart prices decline

The year-on-year rate of change in “grocery cart” prices decreases (from +1.9% to +1.3%), as does core inflation (from +1.7% to +1.6%). The inflation acquired in June, for 2026, remains stable at +2.6%.  The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) records no change on a monthly basis and a +3.0% change on an annual basis (from +3.2% the previous month); the preliminary estimate was +3.1%.

The national consumer price index for worker and employee households (FOI), excluding tobacco, records no monthly change and a year-on-year increase of +2.9%.

Food prices slow down

On an annual basis, prices of goods (from +3.4% to +3.3%) and services (from +2.8% to +2.6%) both decelerate. The differential between the services sector and the goods sector thus remains negative, moving from -0.6 to -0.7 percentage points.

Prices of Food products, household and personal care goods (from +1.9% to +1.3%), and high-frequency purchase products (from +4.4% to +3.9%) also decelerate.
