Mykhailo Fedorov brings to the Italian Defense the experience gained by Ukraine in the technological war against Russia. The former Defense Minister of Kyiv was chosen by Guido Crosetto as an advisor for innovation, focusing on drones, unmanned systems, and air defense. The consultancy, his press officer told the Financial Times, will be free of charge. Fedorov will, in fact, “continue to live and work in Kyiv.”

Born in 1991, Fedorov is one of the faces of the digital transformation built by Ukraine during Volodymyr Zelensky’s presidency. First in public administration, then on the battlefield. Recently, he left Zelensky’s government and made direct accusations of corruption against men linked to the Ukrainian prime minister.

Born in Vasylivka, in the Zaporizhzhia region, Fedorov comes to politics from the digital world. In 2019, he participated in Zelensky’s presidential campaign and, at 28, entered the government as deputy prime minister and minister of Digital Transformation.

His name is mainly linked to Diia, the platform through which Ukraine has transferred an increasing part of public services onto smartphones, from documents to administrative procedures. The goal is to reduce bureaucracy, time, and intermediaries. A model that Fedorov later tried to apply also to the military machine.

With the Russian invasion in February 2022, his role changed. Technology became a tool of war. Fedorov is among the protagonists of the introduction of Starlink in Ukraine and supports the building of an ecosystem based on drones, software, digital systems, artificial intelligence, and collaboration between the Armed Forces, companies, and startups.
