American President Donald Trump has announced a large rally in Washington for June 24, to celebrate 250 years since the founding of the United States, specifying that he had canceled the scheduled concerts after the defection of several artists. “To celebrate 250 years of our country’s history, we will offer you, LIVE, the greatest rally EVER! It will be special on every level: the ultimate rally, which will surpass every other rally!” Trump assured in a post on his social network Truth.

Trump set “the big appointment” for Wednesday, June 24, at 7 PM local time (1 AM on June 25 in Italy), “in magnificent Washington, DC, now completely beautified and counted among the safest cities in the world.” “We don’t want untalented singers who, for exorbitant fees, end up putting you to sleep; we told all of them to stay home. All we want is you, me, some speakers, and the greatest music ever performed: the same music you’ve been listening to for years! We’ll have the fabulous Lee Greenwood, who will introduce me with what has proven to be one of the greatest hits of all time: ‘God Bless the U.S.A’,” Trump added. And then, “the extraordinary Christopher Macchio, who will sing ‘Nessun Dorma’, ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Ave Maria’, ‘God Bless America’ and other songs,” the tycoon continued.
“Since the days of the legendary Luciano Pavarotti, such a voice has not been heard! The rally will also feature the wonderful U.S. Army Band ‘Pershing’s Own’ with the Armed Forces Chorus, and ‘The President’s Own’ United States Marine Band with the Joint Armed Forces Chorus. All your favorite hits will be performed, all in the company of a distinguished and upright gentleman known as… President DONALD J. TRUMP!” he concluded in the post.

Controversies over the risk of politicization of events
In the United States, anticipation is growing for the celebrations of the country’s 250th anniversary. From the Ultimate Fighting Championship meeting at the White House, for which a mega stage has been set up on the residence’s lawn, to an unprecedented fireworks display, many events are planned and will begin in the coming days. Among these is a mega fair that will take place from June 25 to July 10 along the National Mall, in which all 56 states and territories of the United States will participate.
However, controversies are not lacking. Organizers state that the events will serve to celebrate the anniversary of the United States, but some initiatives funded by an entity supporting Donald Trump are raising questions about the risk that the celebrations could take on a political connotation. America250, one of the entities tasked with organizing the festivities, was established by Congress ten years ago with the goal of planning non-partisan events, while Freedom 250, the other organization involved, was created by the president and is configured as a public-private partnership.
